Purchase with a Purpose

Fundraiser for
Jonathan Staddon
$1000 by midnight, November 30

11/30/2011 UPDATE: At 9:00PM, November 30, 3 hours before the time at which the End-of-the-Month Challenge would be officially terminated, the fundraising goal of $1000 was entirely reached. By the end of the day, 12:00 midnight, November 30, 2011, exactly $1,012 stands ready to be openly presented to Jonathan Staddon for use toward whatever purposes he deems will best meet his needs for participating in the ALERT Acadamy’s Basic Training program. Thank you all! In total, 69 calendars were sold with 25 different people contributing from 19 different states and provinces, including Florida, Arizona, Washington, Kansas, Maine, Ontario and Alaska! Again, Jonathan and I thank all who contributed wholeheartedly, and I sincerely hope you enjoy your calendars. :)

And here is the report from when $500 was miraculously reached on the day of Jonathan’s graduation:

11/28/2011 UPDATE: The End-of-the-Month Challenge was launched on the evening of November 25, the day before Jonathan’s high school graduation, to raise $500 by the end of November for his ministry training at ALERT. As the day of Jonathan’s graduation progressed, November 26, I was amazed at how many donations were coming in.

Then, at 4:00 in the afternoon, with $290 set as the amount yet to be raised, Michelle P. sent a donation of $290 with this note: “Hi, I hope this helps Jonathan. I don’t know him, but . . .” and went on to explain the purposes behind her outstanding donation. This, plus the many other donations that had come in from 18 other generous contributers, left Jonathan with $790 by the end of the day, close to double in 1 day what was expected to take 5!

Jonathan and I are overwhelmed with gratefulness for everyone’s generosity, and we thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts for your contributions.

Because there are still a few days left till the end of November, I am continuing the End-of-the-Month Challenge to allow those who have not yet participated to help reach a new goal of $1000 by midnight, November 30. Let the challenge continue!

Purchase calendars with a purpose! Lenspiration was raising support for Jonathan Staddon’s ministry training at ALERT. A purchase of any amount of Original 2012 Calendars for $12.00 each would have proceeds given to Jonathan in support of his goal. Below were his testimony and goals:

The Opportunity

The Air Land Emergency Resource Team (ALERT) is a unique training organization for young men who desire to achieve maturity and fruitfulness in service as Christian men. The training young men receive at ALERT equips them with the discipline, character, and skills necessary to meet the needs of people in crisis. These ALERT Responders will then be deployed to disaster-stricken areas such as those affected by hurricanes, tornados, and floods.

The Vision

“I have always enjoyed activities of risk and adventure! And that is why I was thrilled when I saw a live presentation by ALERT at a homeschool conference. Young men repelling form the huge, domed ceiling and marching in uniform down the aisles gave me a deep sense of excitement. I dreamed that maybe some day I could be one of them. However, I had no idea what it really took; I just wanted to do it for the challenge.

“Then one day, as our family was reading Proverbs 29 for our daily Wisdom Search, the Lord brought to mind something I had heard the day before: some weather disasters had just recently occurred, and they directly corresponded with some ungodly rulings made in the United States. That is when verse 7 popped out to me. It states, “The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.” The thought of ALERT filled me; that is exactly what ALERT does!

“A couple of months later, I heard a sermon on how the fulfilling of the end times is happening today. This really stood out to me, and I started trying to think of ways I might be able to help people turn to the Lord in this desperate time on the earth. Again the Lord brought to mind the success of ALERT in training up young men to follow the Lord. In teaching character and skills used to meet peoples needs, others will see those good works and praise the Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16). The more I thought about it, the more the Lord pressed upon me that this would be a way I could help others turn to the Lord!”

  • We’re with you brother!

  • So where can we buy these? The “2012 Calendar” page does not have these as far as I can see. Thanks!

  • I’m glad you asked, Esther. I am planning on making this option officially available on October 1, 2011, so please check back then. It’s encouraging to hear that you would like to participate already!

  • All right! Thanks!

  • What is the date of Basic Training Jonathan is aiming for?

  • I came upon your family’s website while checking out the Bates Family.

I went to buy a calender. Do you only accept paypal? I wanted to use my debit card.

  • Why doesn’t he join the Army and get that training for free? It even comes with a job attached.

    • Great question! I forwarded it to Jonathan and here is his answer. ALERT is Christian based program working for individuals in communities, whereas the Army is just in defense. ALERT builds Christian character with discipline, and the Army would build only discipline. ALERT is in a Christian atmosphere, where on the other hand the Army would have many temptations. Hope this is helpful!

  • So is he planning on going to unit 47?

  • I doubt he will be going through Unit 47. He probably won’t be able to go until next summer.

  • I can hardly believe it! Praise the Lord, James!
